6. Host family
Your teen’s host family will play an important role in their exchange experience. Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Chores: Your teen will be expected to contribute to household chores as a regular family member.
- Family constellation: Host families come in all shapes and sizes. They might be single parents, blended families, or have same-sex parents. They represent different ethnicities, backgrounds and religions.
- Changing host families: If necessary, STS will facilitate the process with the help of the local coordinator. If your child needs a host family change, keep calm and trust the STS team during this process. This is the best way to support your child through this.
Hosting an exchange student
Have you considered hosting an exchange student? Hosting is a fantastic opportunity to connect with another culture and make a meaningful contribution. If you host an STS exchange student before, during, or after your teen’s exchange, you’re eligible for a Host & Go discount. Contact your local STS office for details!
