Not at all! You don’t need top grades or perfect language skills – what matters most is your motivation and willingness to learn. We offer language prep courses if you’d like to feel more confident before departure. 

It depends on your country and school. Some students get full credit; others may need to repeat part of their studies. We always recommend discussing this with your school counselor before departure. 

That depends on your destination and program. In Classic, you’re placed in a public or private school based on availability. In Select, you choose your school based on your goals and interests.

Classic is perfect for students who want an authentic high school experience and are open to being placed anywhere in the country. With Select, you choose your school, city, and focus – giving you more control over academics, location, and extracurriculars. 

Included in the fee is round trip flights, half/full board accommodation, placement in a local high school, Welcome Camp (fall departures on most destinations), pre-departure materials and preparation meetings for students and parents, 24/7 support, personal support from a local contact person and STS diploma after your exchange. 

Yes. You’ll have a local contact person in your host country and ongoing support from STS – available 24/7 if anything urgent comes up. 

Some Select schools offer diplomas or transcripts. If graduating is your goal, let us know so we can help guide you to the right school. 

Many schools offer clubs, teams, or elective courses – and your host family can often help find activities locally. Let us know when you apply so we can factor it into your choice of program. With our Select program you can choose a school that matches your preferences – whether it’s sports, arts, academics, or another passion you’d like to pursue. 

It depends on how much control you want over your exchange. If you’re open to adventure and surprises, Classic is a great fit. If you have specific academic goals or preferences, Select might be better. Book a consultation with us to find out more. 

We recommend applying at least 6–12 months in advance. Some destinations or Select schools fill up fast, so the earlier you apply, the more options you’ll have. However, we can often accommodate last-minute applications too, so don’t hesitate to contact us even if your timeline is tight. 

In most cases, yes – we’ll make an individual assessment based on your situation. Be open with us early so we can make the best possible arrangements. 

Yes, but only at the end of the year. Host families aren’t expected to provide accommodation for visitors, so parents should plan to stay elsewhere.
