You must be between 15 and 18.5 years old when the program begins. Most exchange students are placed in Junior or Senior year, depending on your age, grades, and English level.

In the Classic program, you can add state, area, or urban preferences as paid add-ons (e.g., California, Midwest, or cities with 30,000+ people). In Select, you choose your exact school and location.

It depends on your program. Classic students typically attend public high schools, while Select students can choose between public, private, or specialty schools. Boarding Exchange students are placed at boarding schools.

No. All our host families are carefully selected and genuinely motivated to open their homes to an exchange student. They choose the student they’d like to welcome.


Yes! Depending on your placement, you can join optional trips to exciting destinations like Hawaii. These trips are not included in the program fee.

Not at all. You don’t need to be fluent – many students start with basic English and improve quickly once they arrive. As long as you’re willing to learn and try, you’ll be fine. If you want a head start, there’s an optional English prep course available before departure.

Additional costs include insurance, visa, personal items, local trips, leisure activities, and pocket money. How much you’ll need monthly depends on your lifestyle, but we recommend at least 350 USD per month, plus an 800 USD buffer for unexpected costs.


Yes. You’ll live with carefully screened host families or stay at established boarding schools, typically in suburban or small-town communities. Together with our U.S.-based team, we ensure that every placement offers a secure and supportive environment where students can thrive.

We understand that adjusting to a new home can take time. If something doesn’t feel right, your local coordinator will first help you talk it through with your host family to find a solution together. If that’s not possible, we’ll find a new host family – your wellbeing always comes first.


Your exchange begins with a 4-day Welcome Camp in NYC (included for fall arrivals). You’ll explore the city, meet other students, and settle in before continuing to your final destination.

The Classic program is perfect if you’re open to being placed anywhere in the USA. With Select, you choose your school, region, and academic focus. Select offers more control but comes at a higher cost.

The fee includes your school placement, host family or dorm accommodation (Boarding Exchange), Welcome Camp in New York (fall departures), local support, 24/7 support, and a certificate at the end of your exchange.

You’ll have a local contact person in your host community who checks in regularly and supports you throughout the year. If anything urgent comes up, there’s also a dedicated phone line available 24/7 – so support is always just a call away.


Many schools offer clubs, teams, or elective courses – and your host family can often help find activities locally. Let us know when you apply so we can factor it into your choice of program. With our Select program you can choose a school that matches your preferences – whether it’s sports, arts, academics, or another passion you’d like to pursue.

We recommend applying 6–12 months in advance. Some destinations and schools fill up quickly, and applying early gives you more flexibility – especially if you have special requests or want to travel in the autumn. However, we can often accommodate last-minute applications too, so don’t hesitate to contact us even if your timeline is tight.
